The Pathfinder, or The Inland Sea (1840) by James Fenimore Cooper is the fourth novel in the famous Leatherstocking Tales. Set during the French and Indian War on the shores of Lake Ontario, the story follows the rugged wilderness scout Natty Bumppo ("Pathfinder") as he escorts young Mabel Dunham to her father's remote military outpost.
