Description:

The Old Man and the Sea is a short novel by Ernest Hemingway, published in 1952. It tells the story of Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman who has gone 84 days without catching a fish. Determined to end his unlucky streak, he sets out alone into the Gulf Stream and hooks a giant marlin.

For days, Santiago struggles against the powerful fish, showing endurance, courage, and respect for his adversary. He finally catches it, but sharks attack and strip the marlin’s flesh before he can return home, leaving only its skeleton.

The novel explores themes of perseverance, dignity in struggle, man’s relationship with nature, and finding meaning in hardship.
